Estelle Morris Chairs the Great Schools Inquiry
Estelle Morris Chairs the Great Schools Inquiry to investigate the role that school and learning environments play in improving outcomes for children and young people.
The British Council for School Environments (BCSE) launched the enquiry in March 2009 and for the past 6 months has gathered evidence, information, research and views of over 500 professional schools, local authorities, architects, contractors and a range of key stakeholders.
Estelle agreed to chair the enquiry as she firmly believes that although much is known about what makes great teaching and learning we don’t know enough about the role that the learning environment and buildings play in improving educational achievement.
Estelle’s role is to now turn the evidence gathered by the Inquiry into practical recommendations by convening a Great Schools Commission. A report and its findings will be available in March 2010 and will enable government, policy makers, local authorities, schools and organisations across the sector to bring about real change in school building programmes across the UK.
