Introduction
Gordon has extensive experience in managing Education and Children’s Services departments and was the UK’s first Director of Children’s Services. In a variety of key leadership roles he has implemented management restructuring, in the response to social, political and economic challenges.
Gordon has worked as a chief officer in regional, unitary and county councils of various sizes and political complexions. He has successfully operated between the levels of government, translating national aspiration to local initiative and ensuring local interests are represented nationally.
He has extensive media experience both proactively when assisting councils to sell policies but also in response to crisis and issues of community concern e.g.. Serious case reviews, school closures, regeneration initiatives and PFI proposals. Gordon has published many articles on social policy in the national media.
Gordon has wide-ranging national experience in pay and conditions of service negotiations.
He served on Scotland’s Cultural Commission in 2004/05.
Gordon is a highly regarded, passionate and entertaining international conference speaker and conference chair.
